Yarn Care and Garment Maintenance Symbols
Listed below are the Universal Symbols established by yarn manufacturers to help you care for your yarn and completed garments.

Basic 5 Symbols
	Wash Tub: This symbol represents laundering/washing instructions.
	Triangle: Bleaching instructions.
	Square: Machine drying instructions.
	Iron: Ironing/pressing instructions.
	Circle: Dry-cleaning instructions.

Washing Instructions
	Hand in Tub: Hand washable.
	40 degrees Tub : Machine washable using lukewarm water.
	100 degrees Tub: Machine washable using hot water.
	X'd Tub: Do not machine wash.

Bleaching Instructions
	Triangle: Use chlorine bleach as per directions on label.
	X'd Triangle : Do not use chlorine bleach..

Drying Instructions
	Square & Horizontal Line: Dry flat - do not use a machine dryer.
	Square & Circle: Dry using a machine dryer.

Ironing Instructions
	X'd Iron: Do not iron.
	Iron with 1 dot: Use cool iron setting.
	Iron with 2 dots: Use warm iron setting.
	Iron with 3 dots: Use hot iron setting.

Dry-Cleaning Instructions
	X'd Circle : Do not dry clean.
	Circle with A: Garment is dry-cleanable with any solvent.
	Circle with P: Garment is dry-cleanable with any solvent except trichloethylene.
	Circle with F: Garment is dry-cleanable using fluorcarbon or petroleum solvents only.
